Details
Scotts Turf Builder Weed & Feed 10-0-0 is a granular lawn food whose only ingredient is corn gluten meal. Scotts describes it as a product that "nourishes lawns and prevents weeds at the same time" and "contains 100% corn gluten meal, a natural weed seed preventer." According to Scotts, it "prevents the germination of dandelion and large crabgrass weed seeds before they sprout," but "established weeds at the time of the application, will not be controlled" — it is a pre-emergent, not a treatment for weeds already growing. Coverage: Scotts rates the 9.1 kg (20 lb) package for up to 93 m² (1,000 ft²) of lawn. When to apply: Scotts says the product is "to be applied twice a year (1: in the early spring 2 weeks before weed seed germination, and 2: in the later summer or early fall after heat stress)" with "any Scotts broadcast spreader." Scotts recommends applying "when soil is moist and rain is forecasted within 2 days of treatment," and notes that "excessive moisture at the time of the treatment may reduce the effectiveness." Cautions from Scotts: "Do not apply it on newly seeded grass as it may inhibit seeds from germinating, wait until first mowing when the grass roots system is established." Read the bag before use and follow the spreader setting printed on it.
