Details
Scotts Turf Builder Lawn Food with Moss Control 23-0-3 is a granular lawn fertilizer that also carries a moss-control component, so it is regulated as a pesticide by Health Canada — read the bag label before use. Scotts describes it as a product that "controls existing moss and feeds grass to help prevent future moss." Ingredients as listed by Scotts: "Ferrous Sulfate: ferrous sulfate is a source of iron that helps to kill moss"; "Potassium Sulfate"; "Ammonium Sulfate: a source of nitrogen"; "Potassium Nitrate"; and "Disodium Octaborate Tetrahydrate: a moss control agent." The iron is what acts on moss; the analysis is 23-0-3. Coverage: Scotts rates the 7.94 kg (17.5 lb) bag for up to 325 m² (3,498 ft²). When and how to apply, per Scotts: "apply when moss is actively growing," in "the spring or fall when the grass is actively growing." Scotts's three steps are to "mow your lawn and remove any debris" and "water your lawn thoroughly the day before application," then "use a spreader" and "apply the product evenly, making sure to avoid over-applying," then "water your lawn thoroughly after application." If applied in summer, Scotts says to "water your lawn thoroughly after application to help prevent the product from burning the grass."
