Details

Neogen DeciMax Wax Blocks is a solid rodenticide bait registered with Health Canada under the Pest Control Products Act as PCP Reg. No. 34192 (registrant: Neogen Corporation). Its marketing class is COMMERCIAL. The active ingredient is bromadiolone at 0.005%; the label also lists 1,2-benzisothiazolin-3-one at 0.0466% as a preservative and denatonium benzoate at 0.001%. The registered label covers net contents from 3.6 kg to 12 kg, and this listing is the 4 kg pail. The label states: "Each block of DeciMax Wax Blocks contains approximately 28 grams of bait." (As arithmetic, 4,000 g divided by 28 g is roughly 140 blocks per pail; the label gives the block weight as approximate.) Who the label allows to use it: "Only to be used by certified pest control operators, farmers and persons authorized in government-approved pest control programs." The front panel also carries "WARNING POISON" and "WARNING, CONTAINS THE ALLERGENS WHEAT AND MILK". What the label covers: "Use DeciMax Wax Blocks for the control of Norway rats, Roof rats and House mice indoors and outdoors within 15 metres of buildings" (residential, commercial, industrial, agricultural, public, and port or terminal buildings). Beyond that 15-metre limit, the label allows tamper-resistant bait stations along a property's fence line within 100 metres of buildings "if the station is securely fastened (e.g., nailed down) to the fence or the ground." "Bait applied outdoors and above-ground MUST be placed in bait stations." Otherwise, "Bait MUST be placed either in tamper-resistant bait stations or in locations not accessible to children, pets, livestock or non-target wildlife." The label sets out three bait-station tiers (tier 3 indoors where pets and livestock cannot reach, tier 2 indoors where they can, tier 1 outdoors above ground where children, pets and wildlife can) and the construction each tier must have; read them on the label before choosing a station. How to apply, from the label. Rats: "Apply 3 to 15 blocks per placement for controlling Norway and Roof rats. Space placements 5 to 10 m apart." and "Maintain a constant supply of fresh bait for 10 days or until signs of rat activity cease." House mice: "Apply 1 to 2 blocks per placement for controlling house mice. Space placements 2 to 4 m apart at locations with signs of house mouse activity." and "Maintain a constant supply of fresh bait for 15 days or until signs of house mouse activity cease." The label also says to remove as much alternative food as possible, "Protect bait from rain and snow." and "Replace contaminated or spoiled bait immediately." In food processing, manufacturing, storage and service areas: "DO NOT place bait in areas where there is a possibility of contaminating food or surfaces that come in direct contact with food." Precautions, as printed: "KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN, PETS AND LIVESTOCK." Handlers must wear a long-sleeved shirt, long pants, shoes plus socks and chemical-resistant gloves, and "Chemical-resistant gloves must be worn when disposing of dead rodents, unconsumed bait and empty containers." "KEEP AWAY FROM FEED AND FOODSTUFFS." "This product is toxic to fish and wildlife. Keep out of lakes, streams and ponds." "If pet or livestock poisoning suspected, immediately contact a veterinarian." Store it "in a secure location inaccessible to children and non-target animals." First aid, toxicological information, disposal and carcass-disposal directions are printed in full on the label; read them before use.
