Details
Breed matters when you are estimating weight from a tape. A Holstein is built differently through the barrel than a beef animal of the same girth, and a tape scaled to beef conformation gives you a number that is consistently off. This one is calibrated for Holsteins, which is why it exists as a separate tape instead of a one-size-fits-all. Measure around the heart girth, immediately behind the front legs and shoulder, with the animal standing square on level footing. The scale reads directly in both pounds and kilograms, so nobody is doing conversion arithmetic in a cold parlour or writing the same number down twice. The everyday uses are drug dosing, tracking heifer growth against breeding targets, and having a defensible weight when you are selling or hauling. It rolls into a pocket, survives being sat on in a truck, and needs no batteries in January.
