Details
Goats are hard to weigh on a farm scale. A tape gets you a usable number in about ten seconds while she stands at the feeder. The tape is read around the heart girth, snug behind the front legs, and the scale printed on it converts that circumference into an estimated live weight. The same tape carries height markings and is printed in metric and inches, so it works whether your records are kept in pounds or kilograms. Estimated weight is what most goat decisions actually need. Dosing wormers and other treatments by guesswork is how resistance and overdosing both happen. Tracking kid growth, deciding when a doeling is heavy enough to breed, and monitoring a doe through late gestation all get simpler once you have a number you can write down.
