Smart Earth Camelina Oil gives horses what most rations are short on: easily digestible omega fatty acids, in a single-ingredient, cold-pressed oil. It carries a favourable omega-3 to omega-6 ratio of 1.8:1 and far better oxidative stability and shelf life than flax or fish oils, which is what makes buying it by the 5-gallon pail practical in the first place. It is the horses that struggle to hold weight, look dull or brittle through the coat, or have lost a step in their movement that tend to show the biggest change. Camelina oil is also highly palatable, so most picky eaters take to it without a fight. Suggested daily dosage, top-dressed on feed: • Small horse (600–800 lb): 1 oz / 30 mL • Average horse (800–1,200 lb): 2 oz / 60 mL • Large horse (1,200 lb+): 3 oz / 90 mL At 18.9 L, this pail covers roughly 315 days for one average 1,000 lb horse, and it is the lowest cost per litre Smart Earth offers.
