Doubling the barrel to 50 mL is not about bigger doses so much as fewer stops. At five millilitres a head, a 25 mL barrel is empty after five animals. This one goes ten, and over a few hundred head that adds up to a meaningful amount of time not spent drawing fluid. Dose settings are 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 mL, indexed rather than sliding, so the setting survives the gun being handed around. Construction matches the smaller model: metal handle and lever, metal luer lock and nib, the patented ToughNut at the tip, a UV-resistant poly barrel, and the blue O-ring that copes with oil-based products as well as aqueous ones. Three coloured knobs are supplied for marking guns to jobs. The action is click, draw and squeeze. Click the button to the dose, draw the fluid, squeeze to deliver. When it comes to parts, be precise about size: the 50 mL barrel and O-ring kit is 268455 and the O-ring kit alone is 268456, five to a kit, and neither is interchangeable with the 25 mL parts.
