Glue traps are a flat board with an adhesive surface. An animal that walks across it sticks to it. There is no poison and no mechanism, which is why they end up in situations where nothing else is permitted — food-handling areas, sensitive equipment rooms, or as a monitoring tool to find out where activity is before you commit to a baiting plan. Used purely as monitors they are genuinely useful. A row of boards along a wall for a week tells you which runways are active, whether you have mice or insects or both, and where a station should go. Many pest control operators use them for exactly that. There is a welfare problem you should know about before you buy. An animal caught on a glue board is not killed; it is held, and it dies slowly of stress, exhaustion or dehydration, sometimes over days, and animals will pull off skin and fur or chew at a limb trying to escape. Glue traps are restricted or banned in a number of jurisdictions for that reason. If you use them for catching rather than monitoring, check them at least twice daily and dispatch anything caught immediately and humanely. If you are not prepared to do that, snap traps kill instantly and multi-catch traps hold animals unharmed — both are better choices. Set them flush against a wall in a runway, out of reach of pets, children and birds. Dust, cold and moisture all reduce the adhesive, so they work poorly in a dirty barn or an unheated shed.
