Shaft choice comes down to how you work. A rigid fiberglass shaft holds its line, so the contact end goes where you point it, and it does not whip around when you are reaching past a rail or working over the top of a crowd tub. People who spend their day at a chute usually prefer rigid for exactly that reason. Fiberglass handles cold better than most materials. It does not go glassy and snap the way cheap plastic can at minus thirty, and it shrugs off the wet and the manure that come with a February processing day. It threads onto a standard Hot-Shot handle with the usual shaft nut and insert. Look the shaft over now and then for splits or fraying in the fiberglass, because a cracked shaft lets moisture into the wire and that is the end of it. Wipe it down after a run, keep it hanging rather than lying on a floor where a gate or a skid steer will find it, and replace it once it starts to look tired instead of waiting for it to quit halfway through a morning.
