Sold one at a time, this is the hold down nut off a Hot-Shot prod handle. It is the sort of part nobody thinks about until it is stripped, lost in the straw or spinning free, and then it is the only thing standing between you and a prod that will not hold a shaft. The reason to buy one before you need one is simple. These come off in a chute, get stepped on by a cow, and are never seen again. A small parts bin on the shop wall with a spare nut, a spare insert and a spare safety clip in it turns a broken tool into a two minute fix instead of a trip to town in the middle of processing. Fit it clean and snug it by hand. Grit in the threads is what chews these up, so wipe or blow the threads before assembly, especially at the end of a dusty day sorting in a dry corral. Check it any time you change shaft lengths, and give it a look before a big run rather than after one.
