Miller 40 Quart Muck Tub (PSB40)

Every operation has one tub that does everything, and it is usually the wrong shape for most of it. Forty quarts is the size that works: big enough to make a stall worth walking, small enough that a full one is still liftable. It measures about 18 inches across and 14 inches high, not counting the handles, and holds 40 quarts, which is ten gallons. The moulding is high-density polyethylene chosen to resist warping and stress cracking, which is what usually kills a cheap tub after a winter of being dragged over frozen ground. The two plastic handles are set wide enough to carry with gloves on. The wide mouth is why these get used for more than mucking. It takes a fork head without catching, and it also holds feed, water, tack, kindling or a soaking bucket of beet pulp. It drops into the matching multi-purpose muck cart if you are moving weight further than a walk. Empty it before it freezes rather than after, because ice in the bottom is what turns a tub into yard furniture. Otherwise these take years of hard use.
