Details
Item 7506 is the complete fount, jar and base together. The jar is transparent polyethylene so the water level reads at a glance, and it screws onto a heavy-duty polystyrene base. Overall it stands 9 inches across and 10.25 inches high, and holds a gallon. A gallon is about right for a small laying flock or a pen of growing birds. Gravity does the work: the jar holds the head of water and the trough refills itself as the birds drink, so you are not topping up an open dish three times a day. The screw-on design means you fill at the tap, thread the base on, flip it and go, which is a one-hand job even in chore mitts. Both halves are stocked separately, jar as item 666 and base as item 750, and that is worth knowing because it is nearly always the base that gets stepped on or cracked, not the jar. Rinse the whole thing out weekly through summer. Through a prairie winter, plan on a heated base or a swap at every chore, since a gallon sitting on a coop floor at minus thirty is a solid block by morning.
