Details
When you are feeding several calves in a row, the time goes into changing nipples and washing bottles, not the feeding itself. A snap-on top comes off with a pull and goes back on with a push, and over a morning of pens that adds up. The bottle is two quarts, about 4 1/4 inches square and 10 inches tall, moulded in FDA-compliant food-grade polyethylene translucent enough to read the level at a glance. The nipple supplied with it is one inch across and four inches long, a longer draw than the screw-on version, formed from a rubber compound made to stay soft and last. The trade-off against a threaded collar is worth understanding. Snap-on is faster and there is no thread to cross or strip, while a screw-on cap holds tighter against a determined calf. Break it down and rinse it as soon as the feed is finished. Replacement snap-on nipples are stocked separately, so a torn nipple does not put the bottle out of service.
