A calf that will not suck is one problem; a nipple that comes off mid-feed is another, and it tends to happen with two litres of colostrum in the bottle and a calf that has finally got going. The threaded collar on this bottle is the answer to the second one. The bottle holds two quarts and measures roughly 4 1/4 inches square by 10 inches tall, moulded in FDA-compliant food-grade polyethylene. It is translucent, so you can see how much is left without pulling it away from the calf. The nipple is one inch in diameter and three inches long, made from a rubber formula chosen for pliability and service life rather than stiffness. Square sides matter more than they sound. The bottle sits on a rail or a tailgate without rolling, and it is easier to grip through a mitt than a round bottle is. Rinse it immediately after every feed, before milk residue sets, then wash with warm soapy water and a bottle brush. The nipple and the cap are both stocked separately when the originals wear out, so the bottle itself should last years.
