Little Giant Metal DuraFork

Details
Plastic forks are fine until they meet frozen bedding or a packed corner, and then the tines splay or snap. A steel head handles what a barn actually asks of a fork in February. The head is 15 inches wide by roughly 11 3/8 inches long, formed from 18-gauge steel with a yellow dichromate plating for corrosion resistance. The tines are angled rather than straight, which lifts manure and wet bedding onto the fork and holds it there instead of dribbling it across the aisle. A triangular brace ties the head to the handle so the joint does not work loose the way a plain socket tends to. The handle is heavy-duty hardwood, 52 inches long and 1 1/8 inches in diameter, a full-length handle rather than a stubby stall fork. Light assembly is required out of the box. Keep it out of standing water, and if the handle dries out over a season a wipe of linseed oil will stop it splintering. Hang it up rather than standing it on the tines in a corner.
