Little Giant Egg Collecting Apron
A fabric gathering apron with fifteen individual pockets, so a full morning of eggs comes out of the coop without a bucket or a loaded shirt hem.
Details
Anyone who has carried eggs in the front of a jacket knows how that ends. You reach for a gate latch, the hem drops, and half a dozen eggs go on the ground. The problem is not clumsiness, it is that egg collecting needs both hands free for doors, latches and the occasional broody hen. This apron ties on at the waist and puts fifteen separate pockets across the front, each one large enough for more than a single egg. The panel measures roughly 26 by 21 inches with a long tie, so it fits over a coat in winter or a shirt in summer and suits most adults without adjustment. The fabric is heavy enough to carry the weight of a full load without sagging into the pockets below. Keeping eggs in individual pockets means they are not rolling against each other on the walk back to the house, which is where most collecting breakage actually happens. It also lets you sort as you go if you run more than one pen. Shake the loose bedding out after each use and wash it when it needs it. Hang it inside the coop door or on a hook in the entry so it is on hand the next time you go out.
