Little Giant handheld LED egg candler from Miller Manufacturing. Miller's product page says: "Quickly and easily check the development of eggs using this lightweight candler." It is battery-operated, with an LED bulb that Miller says "runs cooler than traditional bulbs", a cord-free design that fits in a pocket, and a wrist strap. It "Uses one AAA battery (included)." Miller's incubator instructions treat candling as optional: a way to monitor how the embryos are developing and to find eggs that are not fertile. Their tip: "Test in a dark room for best results." As we read the fertility-testing chart in those instructions, white or clear-shelled eggs are first checked on the 3rd or 4th day of incubation and dark-shelled eggs on the 7th or 8th day, with a second check on the 14th day for both.
