Little Giant Egg Baskets
Coated wire egg baskets welded at every joint, in a small size holding three dozen eggs and a large size holding eight dozen.
Details
Two sizes of wire gathering basket. The small one measures 8 by 8 by 5 inches and takes up to three dozen large eggs. The large one is 13.375 by 13 by 6.875 inches and holds up to eight dozen. Both are heavy-duty coated wire, welded at every joint and finished to resist corrosion. The open wire is the design, not a way of saving material. Eggs come out of the nest warm, and a solid pail traps that warmth and the moisture along with it. In a basket the air moves through and the eggs cool evenly, which is what you want before they go into the cooler. When you wash them, the same openness lets them drain and dry quickly instead of sitting in a puddle in the bottom. Welded joints matter because a gathering basket gets set down hard, hooked over a nest box and carried by the handle with eight dozen eggs in it. A basket only crimped together works loose and the wire ends start catching shells. The coating keeps rust off in a damp coop and after washing, which bare wire will not manage for long.
