Little Giant beginner poultry kit
Starter kit for first-time chick raisers: brooder lamp, red heat bulb, feeder and waterer bases, two jars, a galvanized feeder and a guidebook.
Details
Everything a first batch of chicks needs, in one box. The kit holds a 10.5 inch brooder reflector lamp and a 250 watt red heat lamp bulb, a one-quart plastic chick feeder base, a one-quart plastic chick waterer base, two one-quart plastic jars, a galvanized one-quart round feeder, and a twelve-page backyard poultry booklet. The value is not only in buying the pieces together. It is that somebody who has done this before decided what you actually need, so you are not standing in the aisle working out which base fits which jar. The two jars swap between the feeder and waterer bases, and the bulb supplied is the red one, which is the correct choice for brooding rather than the clear bulb sold for shop work. Read the booklet before the chicks arrive rather than after. Heat, space and clean water are what save or lose a first batch, and the mistakes people make are predictable ones. In this country the extra thing to plan for is a brooder that holds its temperature when the shed drops to minus twenty overnight. Set the lamp up and run it a day early so you know what it holds before there are chicks depending on it.
