The CP9 is a two-gallon feed pail with the hanging bracket moulded into the body rather than bolted on. It is made from impact-resistant DuraFlex plastic and measures 11.5 inches across by 7.75 inches deep, a slightly shallower shape than a general-purpose pail, which is deliberate for calves. A moulded bracket has no fasteners to work loose and no steel to rust off, so the pail hangs on a rail or a panel and stays there while a calf shoves at it. That matters in a calving pen, where anything bolted on eventually gets bent or torn free. The top lip is drilled to accept a bail handle if you want to carry it, though the handle is bought separately. Miller aims this one squarely at calving operations and it earns its place there: shallow enough that a young calf can get to the bottom of a ration, tough enough to survive being knocked around a pen all spring. Wash it out between calves. Milk residue left in a warm pail is exactly the sort of thing that moves scours from one pen to the next.
