An eight-gallon feeder, 18.5 inches across and 13.5 inches high, in a tough polyethylene resin that resists impact and is formulated against warping and stress cracks. Three steel eyelets are set into the rim for mounting in a stall, with the hardware sold separately. The shape is what separates this from a big pail. The sides run straight instead of tapering, so the footprint is as wide as the rim and it does not tip when a horse leans into it the way a conical bucket will. It is also deep, which cuts down on the feed a horse flings over the edge while eating. If waste is a real problem with a particular animal, the FS800 feed saver ring drops in and narrows the opening further. It is bought separately. Three eyelets rather than two lets you hang it level and stop it swinging, which matters on a feeder this size. Eight gallons covers a soaked ration, a heavy feed of chop, or water in a pen you do not want to visit twice. It washes out easily, and there is no steel in the body to rust where wet feed sits.
