Details
The same 3-quart bottle as the screw-on version, FDA-compliant food-grade polyethylene, translucent, 4.1 inches square and 14 inches high, but with a snap-on top. The nipple pushes directly onto the neck with no cap involved, and it is a four-inch nipple, an inch longer than the screw-on style. Snap-on is the faster system, and speed is the argument for it. Two pieces instead of three means one motion to change a nipple, which counts when you are working through several calves in a cold barn with mitts half off. It also means one fewer part to lose in the straw. The trade-off is that a really determined calf can occasionally pull one loose, so it suits animals already drinking well more than it suits a rough starter. The longer nipple reaches further back and suits some calves better than the short one. Replacement snap-on calf nipples are stocked separately, and a smaller snap-on lamb nipple fits this same bottle, which makes it useful to own if you have lambs, kids and calves to cover with one piece of gear. Rinse it after every feed and stand it to dry rather than capping it wet.
