Seventeen and a quarter inches across and only four and a half deep, this three-gallon pan is the shallow, wide shape that turns out to be useful about twice a week. It is moulded from tough impact-resistant DuraFlex plastic, so it survives being stood on, dropped and dragged. The wide floor is what makes it work. Several animals can get at feed at once without crowding around a narrow pail, a dog or a goat will not flip it the way it would a tall bucket, and it gives you plenty of surface for washing gear. The low sides let a bucket calf or a lamb reach the bottom without climbing in. It also gets pressed into service well beyond livestock. Under a truck it catches a full oil change and slides out from under a low frame where a taller pan will not fit. It works as a boot tray, a parts washing tub, and a place to soak beet pulp. Three gallons is a manageable weight to carry and it hoses out easily. Give it a proper wash before it goes back to feed duty if it has had oil in it.
