Details
Item 692 is the jar half of the Little Giant screw-on chick system: one quart of durable transparent polyethylene, 3.5 inches across and 7.25 inches high. Transparent matters here. You see whether the pen has feed or water left without picking anything up and stirring chicks that have just settled under the lamp. It threads onto a useful spread of bases, all sold separately: the 742 screw-on plastic waterer base, the 806 one-quart plastic feeder base, the 732 quail waterer, and the metal 9810 chick feeder and 9826 chick waterer bases. One jar style therefore covers both feed and water across your brooder gear, which makes a spare jar a sensible thing to own. Jars tend to be the part that goes missing rather than the part that breaks, usually mislaid somewhere between the shed and the coop over a winter of storage. Buying an extra at the start of the season is cheap insurance. Wash them between hatches and let them dry right out before storing, since a capped jar with a little water left in it grows things you would rather not put in front of day-old chicks.
