A block pan built the way a block pan ought to be. The MP10 is 18.5 inches square and 5.25 inches high in impact-resistant DuraFlex plastic, and it takes a standard 50 pound block or about 10 quarts of loose mineral. The clever part is inside and underneath. Square-ended ribs across the floor hold the block up off the bottom, and drain holes let moisture run out instead of pooling. A block sitting in its own melt water goes to mush and disappears in a fraction of the time, and that is money straight into the mud. An outer rim on the base lifts the whole pan clear of the ground so it is less inclined to freeze itself down or sit in a puddle. Be clear on one point, though: with those drain holes, this pan will not hold water. It is not a tub. Black plastic will not rust out the way an old steel pan or a tire rim does, and it takes a kick from a cow without denting. Set it on high ground where cattle travel anyway, and tip it over occasionally to clear the packed fines.
