A 10.5 inch corrosion-resistant aluminum reflector on a heat-resistant ceramic socket, rated for bulbs up to 300 watts. The bulb is sold separately. The cord runs six feet with polarized male prongs, a hanger is built into the socket, and a scratch-resistant clamp with a ball joint lets you aim the heat where the chicks actually are. The ceramic socket is what separates a brooder lamp from a shop light. Heat lamp bulbs run hot enough to destroy a plastic socket, and a failed socket over dry shavings is how sheds burn down. A double wire bulb guard is included, which keeps a swinging lamp from putting a hot bulb straight against bedding or a curious bird. The lamp is cULus listed. Use the built-in hanger with a chain or wire as your primary support and treat the clamp as positioning rather than as the only thing holding the lamp up, because clamps get bumped. Run it on a sound circuit without a lot else on the same line, keep the cord out of reach of chicks and rodents, and look the cord, socket and guard over before each brooding season, the same as any electrical gear that winters in a cold shed.
