Neon green stands out where ordinary colours disappear. Against a black cow, against wet hair, against a dark corral in November, a fluorescent mark is the one you can still read from the far end of the alley. That is the whole reason to keep a couple of bright colours in the box. The Twist-Stik is real paint rather than chalk, water and weather resistant, in a twist-up holder that keeps it off your hands and coat. It runs about one and a quarter by four and three quarter inches, so it rides in a pocket without being a nuisance. LA-CO lists it as non-toxic and safe for livestock, and it gets used for sorting, breeding records, treatment marks and vaccination groups. Run a colour code and hold the whole crew to it, because a mark that means one thing to you and something else to the neighbour helping out costs more than it saves. Mark where you will see it, which usually means high on the hip. Cap it, keep it out of a hot truck cab in summer, and it will see out a season.
