Concentrate is how a barn with a lot of horses affords proper fly control. A 946 mL bottle of Repel-Xp makes a great many litres of finished spray, and the cost per litre lands far below anything you can buy ready-mixed. If you are filling spray bottles for six horses every day through July, this is the only version of the math that works. The trade-off is that you have to mix it right, and mixing is where people go wrong. Follow the label dilution exactly. Mixing it strong does not make it work better — it wastes product, raises the chance of skin reaction on a sensitive horse, and puts you outside the registered use of the product, which is a legal problem as well as a practical one. Mixing it weak means you spray all summer and wonder why the flies do not care. Use a measure, not a guess. Label the mixed bottle with the date and what is in it, mix what you will use in a reasonable period rather than a barrel that sits half the summer, and shake before each use. Read the whole label before you open it: the species it is registered for, the insects, whether it may be applied to animals or only as a premise spray at a given dilution, protective equipment for handling the concentrate, and the application interval. Handling concentrate means gloves and eye protection — this is not the diluted product. Store the concentrate closed, above freezing, out of the sun, away from feed, and locked away from children. Do not store mixed spray for next season.
