Four quarts is the everyday chore size. It is enough to feed a few head without walking back to the bin three times, and still small enough that a full scoop is not fighting your wrist all the way across the alley. Galvanized steel is what makes it last. A feed scoop takes a beating people tend to underestimate: driven into packed grain, banged on the rim of a barrel to shake out the last of it, dropped, and stepped on.
