The combination is the point. A chain loop holds on a wet leg without cinching down to a single line of pressure the way a narrow strap does, and it stays where you set it instead of sliding as soon as you take up tension. The nylon end gives you something you can actually grip with a wet hand, or hook a handle onto. Fifty two inches is enough length that you can have one hand doing the work and still have strap left to pull on, which is the practical reason to buy this length over a shorter one. Clean and disinfect it between uses and let it dry. A strap that lives damp in a bucket is carrying whatever was in the last cow into the next one, and calving is not the place to be casual about that. The important part is knowing when to stop. If a calf is not coming with steady, reasonable traction, that is a call to your veterinarian rather than a reason to find more leverage. Good equipment does not change what a malpresentation needs.
