Details
A tip that has been through a few hundred heat cycles stops behaving like a new one. It comes up slower and works less evenly across the face, and at that point replacing it is cheaper than fighting it. This is the larger of the two tips commonly stocked for the Model 3 dehorner. Fitting is the same on either size. An 8mm spanner takes off the M5 nut, the supplied Allen key backs out the grub screw, and the new tip goes on in reverse order. Snug is enough. Heat-up depends as much on a clear gas path as on the tip itself. If the tool has been used on hairy calves, soot and hair build up in the venturi behind the tip. Four screws at the base of the tip give access, and compressed air clears it out. Let the head cool before touching it, use filtered butane to keep the internals clean, and follow the manufacturer's directions and your provincial animal-care requirements when dehorning.
