A min/max thermometer answers the question you cannot answer any other way, which is how cold it actually got in there overnight. Reading a plain thermometer at seven in the morning tells you what the barn is doing at seven in the morning. This one holds the low and the high since the last reset, so you find out what the calves or the waterers or the shop went through while you were asleep. That matters in this country. A calving barn sitting at four degrees when you check it can easily have been well below zero at three a.m., and a shop that seems fine can swing a lot further than you would guess when the wind comes up. Greenhouse growers, anyone running a pump house, and anyone brooding chicks all end up wanting one. Hang it out of direct sun and away from a heater or a door that gets opened every ten minutes, or you will be reading the heater instead of the room. Reset it at the same time each day and the numbers start to mean something. Marked in Celsius.
