These are the disposable counterpart to reusable aluminum hub needles: each one comes sterile in a sealed sleeve, you use it once, and it goes in the sharps container. A hundred to the box makes changing needles between animals cheap enough that there is no excuse not to. Nineteen gauge by an inch and a half sits in the middle of everything. The bore handles most injectable products without excessive push, and the length reaches muscle on mature cattle and horses while still being usable for subcutaneous work at an angle. If you were only going to stock one needle for general treatment work on grown animals, it would be close to this one. The argument for single-use is not fussiness. A fresh needle is sharp, straight and clean, which means less tissue damage, faster injections, fewer bent needles and no chance of moving something between animals on the steel. It also matters at sale time, because injection site lesions and broken needles both come out of your pocket eventually. Check that the sleeve is intact before you open it and do not re-sheath and save a used needle for later. Dose, route, site and withdrawal times come from the product label or your veterinarian.
