Eighteen gauge by three-quarters of an inch is the short, stout needle. The bore is wide enough to push a thick product through without a fight and the length is right for going under the hide rather than into muscle, which is where most label directions now send you on cattle. It is also the needle most people reach for to draw out of the bottle. A wide bore fills a syringe quickly and does not clog on a viscous product, and keeping one dedicated draw needle in the stopper means the needle going into animals stays cleaner. Aluminum hubs take heat, so these can be cleaned and sterilised rather than thrown away, and 25 to a box means you are not rationing them. That said, the beef quality assurance guidance is the guidance for good reason: change needles often, change them the moment one is bent or burred, and never straighten a bent needle and carry on. A broken needle in a carcass is a real and expensive problem. Match the needle to what you are giving and where. Product choice, dose, route and site come from the label or your veterinarian, not from us. Keep used needles in a sharps container, not a feed bag.
