On a large syringe a tired O-ring is more than an annoyance. You are already pushing a considerable volume, and a seal that has gone soft means you feel every bit of the leak in your hand and the animal does not get the full dose. This is the dollar part that fixes it. Watch for a plunger that creeps back on its own, product weeping past it under pressure, or a barrel that will not draw full. Those are all the same failure. The ring is sized for the 50ml barrel specifically. Seal sizes do not carry across capacities, so confirm which syringe you are repairing before ordering, and keep a spare in the same drawer as the syringe rather than in a box in the shop. Fitting needs no tools. Pull the plunger, roll the old ring off, roll the new one into the groove, wet it with clean water and reassemble carefully so it does not pinch on the way in. Keep oil and grease away from anything that touches vaccine. With it apart, wash barrel and plunger in hot water only. Soap and disinfectant residue will kill a modified live vaccine outright. Dry the pieces separately and store the syringe dismantled, so the new ring is not compressed in one spot all winter.
