IVS International TPX plastic syringe with dose nut
IVS International TPX syringe with a dose nut, a clear-barrel reusable alternative to nylon so you can see what you are drawing.
Details
TPX is a hard, clear plastic, and clarity is the reason to choose this over an opaque nylon barrel. You can see the product going in, see air bubbles before you inject them, and see whether the barrel is genuinely clean after washing instead of hoping. On vaccine work, being able to watch the fill is worth something. Like the nylon syringes, it has a dose nut that sets the plunger stop, so once you have it adjusted every pull delivers the same volume and you can work a group without reading graduations. Set it, verify it against the scale once, and go. The trade-off against nylon is toughness. TPX takes autoclaving and boiling well, which nylon does not love, but a hard clear plastic is more likely to crack if it gets dropped on concrete or stepped on in a chute. If your syringes lead a hard life, keep a nylon one as the backup. Wash it in hot water only. Soap and disinfectant residue will inactivate a modified live vaccine, and it is the most common reason a full day of vaccinating accomplishes nothing. Take it apart to dry so water does not sit against the seal, and replace worn seals rather than pushing through a leak. Product choice, dose, route and site come from the label or your veterinarian.
