Cattle Boss utility scissors
Plain stainless utility scissors for the treatment kit, cheap enough that you stop borrowing the good pair.
Details
Every treatment kit needs a pair of scissors that nobody is precious about. This is that pair. Cutting vet wrap, opening feed and mineral bags, trimming gauze, cutting baler twine off a leg, snipping tubing to length, cutting the tag off a new halter: the jobs that dull scissors quickly and that you should not be doing with your surgical instruments or the pair from the kitchen. The blades are stainless, so they will not rust out in a damp barn or a wet toolbox, and there is nothing on them to break. They will go through most of what a farm asks and will not go through wire, hoof horn or heavy leather. Do not expect them to. At this price the sensible move is several pairs: one in the calving kit, one in the horse trailer, one in the truck, one in the shop. Scissors are the single most borrowed and least returned tool on any place, and having enough of them is cheaper than the argument. Wipe and dry them after anything wet or bloody, and put a drop of oil in the pivot once in a while. When they stop cutting cleanly, replace them rather than sharpening. Keep them out of the sterile instrument tray, since a pair that has cut twine and feed bags is not an instrument for cutting on an animal.
