A hundred sterile number 24 blades for a number 4 handle. This is the heaviest blade in the large range, with a deeper curve and more mass than the 20, 21 or 22. The deep curve presents the edge at a steeper angle, which helps when you are cutting into something rather than along it, and the extra thickness means it will not flex when you put real force behind it. If you have been fighting a lighter blade on tough mature hide or a thick abscess wall, this is the one that ends the argument. What you give up is finesse. A heavy deep-curved blade is a poor choice for shallow or precise work, and on smaller animals it is simply too much blade. Keep number 10 blades and a number 3 handle in the kit for anything delicate. Buy a hundred and use a fresh one every time. There is no version of this where stretching a dull blade across a long day is the right call. These fit a number 4 handle only. Mount and strip them with a needle driver or pliers, never fingers, and pull the blade away from your hand. Used blades go into a sharps container. A blade this heavy does not forgive poor restraint, so get the animal held properly, the site clean and the pain control sorted before you start, and phone your veterinarian if the job is bigger than your training.
