Cattle Boss scalpel blades #22 (100 per box)
Box of 100 sterile number 22 blades for a number 4 handle, the broad large blade that is the usual default for cattle.
Details
A hundred sterile number 22 blades to fit a number 4 handle. The 22 is shorter and broader than a 21, and it is the large blade most people settle on for general livestock work. Broad means more steel behind the edge and a shorter working length. In the hand that translates to a blade that feels planted and does not want to wander, which is what you want when an animal is shifting and you are working through thick hide with short controlled strokes. For a long straight incision a 21 has the edge; in a confined spot the 22 is better. If you are only going to stock one box of large blades, this is a sound choice. The 20, 21, 22 and 24 overlap enough that four boxes on a shelf is stock sitting idle rather than preparedness. Use a fresh blade per animal. At a hundred to the box the cost of doing that is nothing next to the cost of a wound that heals badly because the edge was dull. They fit a number 4 handle, not a number 3. Mount and strip with pliers or a needle driver rather than fingers, pull the blade away from yourself, and put used blades straight into a sharps container. Restraint, clean preparation and pain control all matter more than which blade is on the handle.
