This is the delivery line for intravenous fluids: rubber tubing with the fittings to connect a bottle at one end and a needle at the other, run by gravity. It is what gets calcium, dextrose or fluids into a vein at a controlled rate when a large volume has to go in. Rubber rather than clear vinyl means it stays flexible in the cold, which matters in a Prairie winter when a stiff line kinks the moment you set the bottle down. It also takes being trodden on in a barn alley without splitting. Be clear-eyed about what this equipment is for. Intravenous administration is not a beginner treatment. The rate matters enormously, and with calcium in particular pushing it too fast can stop the heart of the animal you are trying to save. Getting a needle into a jugular, holding it there, recognising when to slow down or stop, and knowing whether the animal needed IV calcium in the first place are all things to learn from your veterinarian with their hands beside yours, not from a description on a website. Which product, what volume and what rate come from the label and from your vet. Flush the line with clean water after every use and hang it to dry rather than coiling it wet. Replace it when the rubber gets tacky, cracked or stiff.
