Two handles, which is what saw wire needs to be usable at all. Wire under working tension goes through a glove and into a hand without much resistance, and a hand you cannot grip with partway through a procedure is a problem for you and for the cow. Handles also give you something to pull straight with. Even tension and a controlled stroke are what make a cut work, and you get neither from wire wrapped around your fists. Clean and disinfect them between uses like everything else that goes near a calving. The handles are reusable where the wire is not. Worth having in the kit before you have the wire. Anyone who has improvised handles at three in the morning holds a firm opinion about it. The standing note on all fetotomy equipment applies here too: this is veterinary work, the technique has to be learned in advance from someone who knows it, and a calf that might still be alive is a reason to stop and call rather than proceed.
