Twenty millilitres gives you two things: the ability to give a larger single dose, and fewer trips back to the bottle when the dose is small. On a long day of processing, halving the number of refills is worth more than it sounds. The dosing nut sets the plunger stop so that every pull is the same volume, whether you have set it at five millilitres or the full twenty. Set it, check it against the graduations once, and then work without thinking about it. The caution with a bigger barrel is accuracy at the bottom end. A two millilitre dose measured in a twenty millilitre syringe is far less precise than the same dose in a ten, and with the nut set that low the stop has less to bear against. If most of what you give is small, buy the smaller barrel. Also keep in mind that many labels cap how much product should go into a single subcutaneous or intramuscular site, so a large total dose often needs splitting across sites rather than one big injection. Nylon takes abuse and cleans up. Wash in hot water only, since soap and disinfectant residue will kill a modified live vaccine. Dry it in pieces and replace the O-ring when the plunger goes loose.
