Details
The dosing nut lets you lock the plunger stop at that figure so every animal gets the same amount without you reading the barrel each time. That repeatability is the point of a syringe like this. Working a chute, you want to draw, inject, and move on, and a set stop takes the arithmetic out of it. It also means the last animal through gets the same dose as the first, which is not always true when you are eyeballing graduations in the dark. The nylon barrel takes real abuse, being dropped, stepped on, left in a bucket, and cleans up for the next season. Luer lock threading keeps the needle attached when you push a cold, thick product, which a slip tip will not always do. Hot water only for cleaning. Soap or disinfectant left in the barrel will inactivate a modified live vaccine and you will not know until the calves get sick. Strip it down to dry, and replace the O-ring when the plunger loosens. Which product, what dose, which route and which site all come from the label or your veterinarian.
