The number 22 is a large curved blade, shorter and broader than a 21, and it is the one a lot of people end up settling on for cattle. Ten to the box, each already fitted to a handle and sealed sterile, so there is no mounting and no cleaning. Broader means more steel behind the edge and a shorter effective cutting length. In practice that gives you a blade that feels stable and does not want to wander, which is what you want when the animal is moving and you are cutting through thick hide. It is a bit less suited to a long straight incision than a 21, and better in a confined spot where you are working with short controlled strokes. If you are stocking one large blade for general use, the 22 is a defensible default. The 20, 21, 22 and 24 all overlap and any of them will serve; there is no need to keep four boxes on the shelf because a chart says they are different. Check the sleeve is sealed before you open it, and put the whole unit in a sharps container when you are finished rather than in the garbage. Restraint, clean preparation and pain control matter more than which blade you picked, and anything beyond what you have been shown how to do is a phone call to your veterinarian.
