A number 21 is a large curved blade, a touch longer through the belly than a 20 and otherwise doing the same job. Ten to the box, each blade already moulded to its own handle and sealed sterile, so there is nothing to mount and nothing to clean. The extra belly length is worth having when the incision is long. More cutting edge in contact means fewer strokes to open a given distance, and fewer strokes means less ragged edge and a cleaner heal. On mature cattle and horses that is a real difference; on a lamb it is meaningless and you should be using a small blade anyway. Be honest with yourself about whether you need this rather than a 20 or a 22. All three are large curved blades and any of them will do most farm jobs. People who have a preference usually formed it in a particular chute doing a particular task, and that preference is fine, but it is not a reason to stock all four. Confirm the sleeve is intact before opening. The entire unit goes in a sharps container afterward, not the garbage. Proper restraint, clean preparation and pain control matter more than the choice of blade, and anything past what you have been trained to do belongs with your veterinarian.
