Cattle Boss disposable scalpels #12 (10 per box)
Ten sterile disposable scalpels with a number 12 blade, the small hooked blade that cuts on the inside of the curve.
Details
The number 12 is the odd one in the small blade range. It is a crescent, sharpened on the inside of the hook, so it cuts as you pull it toward you rather than as you push it through. That makes it the wrong blade for a plain skin incision and the right blade for a handful of specific jobs. Where it earns its place is anywhere you need to get under something and cut outward: picking up and dividing a suture, opening a tract or a pocket from the inside, working into a space too small to get a straight edge into. The hook catches what you want and the enclosed edge means you are cutting away from whatever is underneath. Because the blade comes moulded to its own sterile handle, there is no mounting a small awkward blade with pliers and no cleaning afterward. Ten to the box, each in a sealed sleeve. If you are not sure this is the blade you want, it probably is not. Most people should keep number 10 blades for skin and number 11 for stabbing and lancing, and buy 12s when a specific job calls for one. Confirm the sleeve is intact before opening, put the whole unit in a sharps container afterward, and phone your veterinarian before cutting into anything you are not certain about.
