Twenty gauge is a step finer than an 18, and that is the whole reason to have it. Less tissue damage, a smaller hole, less leak-back out of the injection site, and an easier time on lambs, kids, piglets, young calves and anything you are putting a small volume into. One inch is the general-purpose length. On sheep, goats and small calves it reaches muscle without going through it; on larger stock it is the right length for going under the skin at an angle. Where it will disappoint you is thick or cold product, because a fine bore makes you push, and pushing is how needles bend. The aluminum hub takes heat, so these can be cleaned and sterilised instead of discarded, and there are 25 in the box. Even so, change needles frequently, pitch any needle that is bent or burred rather than straightening it, and never carry on with a dull one. A broken needle left in an animal is a serious problem for the animal and for whoever buys it. Keep a range of gauges and lengths in the kit rather than trying to make one needle do everything. Dose, route and site come from the product label or your veterinarian. Used needles go into a sharps container.
