Chartreuse does something no other colour on the rack manages. It keeps working as the light goes. At dusk, or under the lights on an early winter chore round, a chartreuse tag still throws a number back at you when the reds and blues have gone flat and grey. The run is one through a thousand, stamped in order. That is a whole intake covered by a single sequence, so numbers stay unique across pens and there is no writing to do at the chute. On a long processing day, taking the marker out of the job is worth more than most people expect it to be. This is the feedlot pattern tag, lighter and shorter than the mature cow tag and meant for identification over a feeding period. One piece, with the piercing tip built into the point, so it seats in a single squeeze and leaves nothing behind the ear to catch. These are management and visual identification tags. They are not a substitute for an approved CCIA tag.
