Rings are the part of elastration you run out of, not the pliers. A bag of a hundred covers a season of work for most small flocks and is cheap insurance against being caught short partway through a batch of lambs, which is the point at which people start improvising. These are the standard-size green elastic bands used for castration and tail docking of lambs and kids. Standard size is the common size, and if you are working animals outside the usual range it is worth checking a ring against the tool before committing to a batch. Rings are a consumable and they age. Rubber left in a hot shed or in sunlight goes brittle and loses the tension that makes the technique work, so store the bag somewhere cool and dark and finish an old bag before opening a new one.
