Weaning week is the roughest stretch in the calendar for a calf. Sorting, a new pen, a strange bunk, a truck ride and a set of pen mates it has never met all land inside a few days, and pheromone products are aimed squarely at that window. The active principle is a maternal bovine appeasing substance, the analogue of what a cow produces to settle her own calf. Dose is 5 ml per head regardless of weight or age, applied in one spot on the top of the neck between the poll and the withers, so a one litre bottle covers 200 head. It can be applied ahead of weaning, transport, processing, vaccination or commingling, and repeated roughly every thirty days through a demanding stretch. Because it goes on the neck rather than down the throat, it fits into a processing pass without adding a separate handling. It is a pheromone rather than a drug, and it is meant to sit alongside sound weaning practice, clean water and good bunk management rather than in place of any of them.
